Update #16

August 7th, 2008

After a couple of months of bludging, I figured it was about time to start getting rid of my silver and black army.  The Fire Dragons will get finished soon, and I will intermingle with them the newest addition to the board.  The Wraithguard.

I am pretty happy with the result on this one, I may need to buy a new container of white primer, since the surface I started with was a little chalky, but enough excuses 😉  The result is below:

I will be a bit more aggressive with my fade on the gun muzzel next time, I took a bit too long to fade to near white.

Update #15

June 23rd, 2008

It’s been a busy month!

All my vehicles (for modelling purposes, this includes jetbikes) have been re-based to the original Citadel perspex provided – sort of.  I added some texture, weight and interest, but the size and raw materials are now 5th Ed rule compliant.  No photos at this stage of the additional effort for most of that yet, because I am lazy.

This also meant the display board needed modification, both to accept the new bases, and to fit an additional 15 minis (Hello Wraithwall!!).  I will take a shot of the board when the wraithguard and extra warp spiders are assembled.

In new painting progress, I have finished the Falcon and Vyper.  Pretty happy with them both.  The Falcon in particular.  I think it turned out a lot better than the wave serpent (I was significantly more patient with my highlights, and it shows).

Pics below.

Update #14

May 15th, 2008

Finished the Wave Serpent and decided to mix things up with a Fire Dragon.  Reasonably happy with the latter – I would choose a more obvious contrast on the gems on his hat if I had my time again, but oh well – I blame my wife!

Update #13

Late and tired so this will be brief.

Update #12

April 22nd, 2008

Finished the jetbikes – finally – no more real lighting effect attempts on large smooth surfaces from now on.  Will stick with edge highlights for the remainder of the vehicles.

I have broken one of my early rules and purchased a wave serpant, but I am certain the floodgates are well and truly closed, there is no way I will yield to desire and purchase my wraithwall, even if I do have birthday funds coming up ……..

The new board lay out is below – I have removed the 4th jetbike to make room and re-based the vyper.  The 4th jetbike rider also had an argument with a dremel – the dremel won.  At some point (see flood gate note above) I will convert it to a farseer bike.  But not for ages and ages (maybe this thursday).

I got the lid for the board a while back but never posted a pic.  Still needs a handle (or 2) on top, but lets me put the minis in the boot without fear of jumper cable death.

Next post will be be either me or Lachie, depending on if I survive the swarm this friday (Tyranid war inc).

Update #11

April 6th, 2008

Encountered my first armoured company care of Clem’s 9 tanks and learnt some valuable strategies.  When facing 9 tanks – RUN and HIDE! (Also known as the “duck and cover” survival technique)

On the painting front, I have almost finished a single jetbike.  I have thought alot about painting in recent weeks, it’s the thoughts that count I hear.

To be done: Buy some plastic, cut out a long triangle, mould it into a fluttering banner, paint the banner, whack it on the back.  I am through with deadlines, it’ll be done when it’s done.

Update #10

March 24th, 2008

After a good start vs Imperial Guard, 2 consecutive losses have been incurred vs Tau and then Dark Eldar.

My first games against armies that can rival or better my mobility, and many lessons have been learned.

The most important lesson, you can’t win games without at least one painted character.  This has been rectified.  Wins will surely follow!

My first shot at Blending (sword and robe), I think it turned out Ok – room for improvement remains )

Update #8

February 25th, 2008

On on the 3rd Guardian, after much swearing and hair pulling, the result became Ok.   Thanks Daz for some good tips 🙂

The army however will change to a mix of Craftworld colours, Ulthwe black primed goodness here we come!

Anyway, the result I hope to replicate for the remainder of this troop squad is below.
